Drug smuggler nabbed with WY tablets worth over Rs 5 crore

Imphal: Officers of Anti-Smuggling Unit, Customs Division, Imphal, on Sunday seized 54, 400 WY (World is Yours) Amphetamine tablets from a smuggler near Kwakta Bazar, Bishnupur district, Manipur.
The smuggler was identified as Hemminlal Touthang, 32, son of Doukholun Touthang, Aigejang village, Khamenlok, Pangei Yangdong, Senapati, Sadar Hills East sub-division.
The seized drug weighed 5.38 kg. The total value of the contraband drugs is estimated at Rs. 5,44,50,0001 in the intemational market, Reenhishri S, deputy commissioner, Customs Division, Imphal said in a statement released on Monday.
A Honda Activa 6G bearing registration number MN06 SF 2545 used by Hemminlat Touthang for transportation of the contraband drugs was also seized. The accused has also been arrested under relevant section of the NDPS Act, 1985, he said.
In previous one case, on February 24, Customs Preventive Force, Pallel under Customs Division, Imphal intercepted a Maruti Van and search of the vehicle resulted in recovery of 12 gold biscuits of foreign origin weighing 1.992 kg valued at about Rs 1.12 crore. The goods so recovered have been seized under Customs Act,1962. One person has been arrested. Further investigation to nab the other offender(s) of the eases is going on, he added.
