Poppy seeds of 4.40 kg, opium of 2.366 kg recovered in Manipur

Imphal: Churachandpur district police of Manipur have recovered poppy seeds weighing about 4.40 kg and opium weighing about 2.366 kg from a residence at K. Salemphai village, Churachandpur district, on Thursday.

The residence belonged to Jampao Haokip, 56, son of late Jamkhothang Haokip of Mongneljang village, Senapati district.

The police made the recovery acting on an information that a huge quantity of contraband opium is being stored at the residence of Jampao Haokip.

The opium was found in two polythene bags–one contained 866 gm and the other 1350 gm (including both the bags). The poppy seed was packed in a black cloth. It weighed 4.40 kg including the weight of the cloth, a police report said.

The suspected contraband drugs were seized at 9:45 am and  packed and sealed in a white cloth in the presence of SDM/ Tuibuong and civil witness and the individual have been arrested.

A case under ND&PS Act has been registered for investigation, the report said.
