Demarcation for road expansion from Sanjenthong to Minuthong bridge conducted

Imphal: As a part of a Smart City plan to develop 2-lane road from Sanjenthong to Minuthong bridge along the eastern bank of Imphal river, a joint demarcation of the available RoW was conducted along the existing semi-pucca road on the eastern bank of Imphal River from Kangla Nongpok Thong to Minuthong on Thursday.
The demarcation work was conducted under follow up action of the order issued by deputy commissioner, Imphal East, Khumanthem Daina Devi, on March 16.
The demarcation is conducted to develop a 2-lane road from Sanjenthong to Minuthong (2.20km) with a minimum width of 12 metre along the existing semi-pucca road on the eastern bank of Imphal river, the order said.
It informed all the residents of the houses and establishments along the Imphal Rrver from Kangla Nongpokthongkhong to Minuthong to co-operate in the joint demarcation.
Convenor of the JAC for the Conservation of Sanjenthong Meitei Leikai, Mission Lane, Namthapung, Dimdailong, on the eastern bank of Imphal river, New Lambulane, K.R. Lane, Golapati and Hafiz Hatta, Boyes Kom told reporters that the people settling along the stretch welcome the Smart City but the road expansion is going to affect many households.
He said the households have been settling for the last 60-70 years and after demarcation those households is going to be displaced. The JAC had submitted memorandum to the chief minister requesting to decrease the width to at least 30 feet.
He said the road expansion can also be done on the river bank instead towards RoW. He questioned the state government on either road or people is important.
