Two illegal drug sellers arrested with Cough syrup

Imphal: Imphal East district police commandos apprehended two illegal drug sellers in a search operation conducted at Lamphel Sana Keithel near AG Colony, Imphal-West district on Wednesday.

The two illegal drug sellers were  Md. Riyajuddin, 40, son of late  Md. Joynun of Hatta Minuthong, Golapati, Imphal-West and Shamurailatpam Rojina Devi, 39, wife of late Gotimayum Priokumar Sharma of Kakching Sumak Leikai, Ward no. II, Kakching, currently residing at Lamphel Sana Keithel AG Colony.

They were nabbed from a  medical store—Universal Pharma, Lamphel Sana Keithel near AG Colony and seized 921 bottles of Cough Syrup bottles labelled as ‘DELT’ (containing Codeine) from  their possession.

They said they have been in the trade of illegal selling of cough syrup to unauthorised customers for quite sometime, a police report said.

The arrested persons along with the seized items have been handed over to Lamphel  Police station for taking up further necessary legal action. Investigation is on to find out other involved persons, it added.
