5 kg Brown Sugar recovered, 2 arrested in Manipur

Imphal: Manipur Police nabbed two drug farriers from Sumchinvum village, Churachandpur district who were transporting the contraband drug along Tedim road on Thursday night.
The two smugglers were identified as T. Thangmuanlal, 28, son of Tuanson of Dailon village, Thanlon, Pherzawl district and Thangsonmuan, 36, son of Goukhozam of Vengnuam, New Lamka, Churachandpur.
On Thursday at around 10:30 pm, officer-in-charge Singngat police station, inspector Thangpu Tonsing received a reliable information of transport of contraband drugs from Singngat to Churachandpur on the Tedim road. Immediately a team led by Tonsing and they started frisking checking at Sumchinvum village. The executive magistrate was also requisitioned for the purpose, a police report said.
At around 11:30 pm two suspected vehicles–a black DIO and red Activa without registeration number were seen. The two vehicles were checked thoroughly in the presence of the magistrate and civil witnesses.
Two white jute bags containing 286 and 143 soap cases respectively of suspected Brown Sugar were found, the police report said.
The item weighed 5.148 kg. The two persons were consequently arrested, it added.
The accused disclosed that one Bolero and one white Gypsy were expected to receive the illegal consignment near Haijang village. On arrival of the police team the two vehicles were found but the occupants had abandoned the vehicle. The two vehicles were also seized in the case. Further investigation underway, the report said.
