Assam Rifles foils timber smuggling

Imphal: Somsai Battalion under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) foiled Timber Smuggling in general area Awangkasom village of Ukhrul District on Thursday.

The Assam Rifles troops intercepted five trucks loaded with illegal timber in general area Awangkasom village,  evaluated to be worth approx Rs 1.6 crore, the Assam Rifles said on Friday.

The seized timber along with apprehended smugglers and vehicles were handed over to Forest Beat Officer, Awangkasom for further legal action, it added.
